"The days of rear-wheel-drive BMWs in Canada may be numbered, BMW Canada president and CEO Franz Jung says, because Canadian buyers – even performance-minded BMW customers – simply see rear-drive as too much of a negative in the winter." “Our aim is not to bring any rear-wheel-drive cars to Canada anymore”
I hope this asshat is talking out of turn and gets fired asap; unless BMW is seriously revamping their Xdrive system, so long to the Ultimate Driving Machine...
I know most people who buy BMW's aren't buying them for the drive anyways, but it's sad that soon it will be impossible to get a RWD+manual BMW in Canada
Most people won't even notice a difference. Posted via RS Mobile
Corrected.

What do they plan to do with cars that don't have X-Drive options like the M cars and Z4, etc....... I doubt they will offer X-Drive on all of them down the road... especially with a manual transmission... most companies default you to automatic when you check off the AWD box.

I think you guys are taking their press release a little too seriously. I'm willing to bet they are talking about the flagship 3-series and 5-series cause these are the best sellers, for people who just want to commute, and they are recognizing people want FWD or AWD to commute. The enthusiast cars that sell in more limited numbers will still be RWD.
Having awd in snow, or fwd, will do nothing to save your ass when you're going around a corner too fast, trying to stop at an icy intersection, or trying to make your way down an icy slope.
People rely far too much on their car's drive system to save them in an emergency situation, when in reality your fancy awd system won't do shit to slow you down when you're in a 4 wheel skid because you took a corner way too fast. Inexperience and ignorance are the two major factors that cause accidents in adverse weather conditions. Not to mention all of the people that just slap on all season tires onto their 4x4 because they think that's all they need.
In vancouver I can totally understand people not wanting to fork out for winters, but for christ sake, stay the fuck home if it snows, for all our sakes.
I wish there was a fail button for bmw, I'd be spamming it right now if I could. One of the reasons I would buy a bmw is because it's rwd... Now they're thinking of taking that away? I'd no longer have any desire to own a new one then.
i think they are doing this because in winter time there are a lot of accidents bc(duh), and in vancouver area most of those accidents involve a bmw, but bmw's are the most luxury owned car in bc, what do they expect? just because you buy a bmw doesn't mean your good at driving
i know but now the sales man can push even more x-drive if they going to withdraw all the RWD, and possibly bring in some FWD bmw? which sounds weird but what they going to do if they withdraw RWD? unless every single vehicle going to be X-Drive than thats a different story.
I guess introduce isnt the best word, advertise i should say
"It's called Sex Panther by Odeon. It's illegal in nine countries... Yep, it's made with bits of real panther, so you know it's good ... They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time. "
