I thought it was exclusively only through Telus? The ceramic titanium build is pretty cool.

Headphone jack really helps. Better sound quality and older cars don't have Bluetooth audio built in.
As for the built-in camera on the Essential, it's really the same idea as Huawei P9, Mate 9(which I am using right now) and P10, except Huawei teams up with Leica to develop the cameras. Mate 9 camera is generally very well received, so maybe the ones on Essential wouldn't be too shabby.
I really couldn't care less about the titanium body. It just adds unnecessary weight, IMO. Almost no one runs around with a phone without a case anyway.
I won't miss the headphone jack on a phone...barely use mine, not to say it doesn't come handy
so it's basically a kickstarter-style barebones phone, but charging flagship prices ($1050+)
so co-founder of Android designed it...big deal...i'm sure the software is nice (except the camera)...the hardware doesn't seem enticing enough to attract those entrenched in the Samsung or Google realm

The essential Phone is available from Koodo, zero down on a medium tab.
Basically $360 bucks plus taxes

CAN$360 seems to indicate that this is not on par with most of the flagship phones.
Oh, one thing to add about headphone jacks: if you are a merchant and uses Square, a headphone jack makes life a lot easier. One of my workmates has an iPhone 7 and he has to carry the adapter around just so he can use the Square.
heard there are tons of issues with it..
I would wait for the next model and see if they are still alive.. highly doubt it
Sales were pretty bad
Nailed it.
The first one I received from Koodo was a dud.
Touch screen unresponsive.

I think the problem is that it's just nothing really special. It's not a ground-breaking product. Everything it does, competitors do it equally well or better, and not a lot of people are willing to be the Guinea pig for a product from a startup company.
What are you suggesting? That they keep pushing out a product that doesn't work, and doesn't sell?

The only unique thing this phone seems to do is the 360-degree camera, which I don't think is more than a bragging right for most people, and the crappy camera app definitely doesn't help.

Hard to say. Looks like they might be able to make their money back from the sales, but personally, I'd pull the plug on the whole project unless it offers something no competitor offers, and is not just a bragging right.
IF they start cheap and then work their way up, then might do better, like how OnePlus started.. people need confidence with spending $500+ on a new startup...

I don't think they have high overhead like marketing, B&M lease so yes keep going for a while to try to get close to breaking even
get on more carriers' subsidy plans
doesn't seem like it's complete trash...they just priced themselves out at launch for a 'me too' device
Picked one up a few days ago and liking it so far. As with any new phone the physical aspect of getting used to a new device is the initial challenge, but with this one it's especially difficult to differentiate the front from the back without a bit of extra effort. Usually I can figure it out before my hand leaves my pocket.
Otherwise love it... except for that the cameras are terrible.
I think the camera is nothing special. Liked my LG G5 camera better (also missing the wide angle camera from it..that was quite enjoyable). Kind of tempted to get the 360 camera add-on, but it'll cost more than what I got the phone for lol.
