Exporters

Just thought I'd start a discussion and get a better idea on how other dealerships deal with this situation.

For the the salespeople here (particularly at luxury dealerships), do you guys have a prevalent amount of exporters coming in to buy your cars? If so, how strict is the manufacturer and how does the dealership handle it?

I'm just curious because I work at The BMW Store and we sometimes get a steady amount of these exporters. I know this because the people picking up these cars usually use their foreign Chinese names and typically get the same models with the exact same options and colors. From what I've read, there seems to be a legal loophole from where exporters uses these people as proxies so that the car is technically "owned" by the person picking up the vehicle and not the actual exporter.

depends what brand and store policies..

Most will require you to sign a non-exportation agreement and if you breach it you get a banned from purchasing a vehicle ever again from the brand, regardless of the dealership. Your info gets sent to HQ and the sent it all across NA barring you.

Are dealerships are to track what happens to the vehicle after it’s sold to somebody else? I heard they send somebody to buy the vehicle with cash/Cheque. Turn around a few days later transfer it to a company. At that point the vehicle could of been driven to the docks.

Apparently some dealers now put low value liens on the title so they cannot be exported?

Pretty sure dealerships get fined from the HQ company for each vehicle they found exported

What's the problem with exporters? Isn't it just another car off the lot?

do you want to wait an additional 6 months for your Ford Raptor?
they should find a way to put 25% tax on not just luxury vehicles but all new export vehicles going on a boat

nah undercuts the company as awhole; other market would be losing out.

most importers are the Chinese for lux vehicles because of the lux tax mark up there a 100k here is 3-400k there.

wire over some cash and a boat and boom

Spoiler!

From the few we found out were the middlemen or woman who broke down when caught once...

They pay for everything cash the cost of the vehicle / shipping + a hefty commission as well

I know a guy.....

Its usually a percentage of the overall price, but the average for a $50k car would be about $1200. Not bad for a couple hours of work.
