tried sitting in the passenger seat for once
that transmission hump in the footwell is almost a deal-breaker...I get it it's as driver's car but holy crap what an oversight...let's hope the ND's 5th revision tranny won't continue to blow up
quite a few people are also skeptical about the new dual mass flywheel...I can't imagine the anal engineers in japan screwing this up but might be worth waiting for a review before plunking down the funds
A little bit surprised that there's no mention of improved sound insulation as was leaked earlier. By many accounts the car is really loud even for what it is. Never heard complaints about noise levels for the NC but have read a lot about people having to wear earplugs on longer trip or trips on highways.
I'd love to own an ND some day but I'm hearing impaired and have sensitive ears now so was hoping for improvements in this area.
NC seems to have the least amount of support, I would personally go with NB2 just because imo it looks the best and best value atm.
While it is true that the NC has the least amount of aftermarket support among the different generations so far, it still has options for everything that enthusiasts would want. It's just that instead of having, say, 5 - 10 different options for a particular item, there may only be 2 - 3 to choose from, but they are still good, solid ones developed by reputable Miata shops (think Good-Win-Racing and Flyin Miata).
There should be plenty of NC PRHT around. In fact, I think the majority (ie. over 50%) of the NCs sold in the later years are all PRHT.
Bear in mind that a PRHT is not as suitable when used in a performance application -- there is extra weight and the lack of club-sanctioned rollover protection. But those will only matter if you plan on tracking the car.
I was on the flyin Miata site the other day and noticed for the NC they no longer list a Supercharger kit... anyone know why?
Low take rate, maybe?
Since FM developed it, maybe it can still be special ordered. If someone is interested, I'm sure they can talk to FM and find out.
On the other hand, Goodwin still has their SC kit listed.
Also, I think 2.5L swaps are more popular than SC or turbo because of costs and simplicity. In its crudiest and most basic form, it is essentially a drop in affair (but you probably don't want a straight drop in like that).
^ I've been reading up on the 2.5 it seems very popular and not much is needed to make it work. Easily get over 200hp with some bolt-ons would make the NC much more enjoyable.
That said I really want an NB with J-series Honda motor.... something about the v6 would just make me so happy.
Not easy to get 200 whp. In fact, a lot of people are bxtching that the Miata shops are misleading people into thinking that 200 whp is easy.
I think it is more realistic to expect around 170 - 180-ish whp. But with the ND2 pumping out 180 (crank) hp straight out of the factory and its weight advantage, I think even a 2.5L swapped NC is still gonna eat dust going against an ND2.
I've been driving around the ND2 for the past 2 weeks, the review will be posted later today for the soft top and a more in depth with be posted next week for the RF.
NC with 170-180 isn't bad yea it weighs more than the ND2 but I think its still a good balanced vehicle. Too many people bitch about more power when the miata was never about that.
The RF is significantly louder with the top down when comparing to the roadster.
Other than that, I would say it's a better day-to-day miata. Quieter, easier to live with etc
