Anyone excited? I'm looking for an alternative to the Tesla model 3 and this looks like a competent rival. Not to mention it looks significantly better than the model 3.
they are gonna fuck up advertising so no one will know about it
took them 4 years to start advertising the xc90 during prime time instead 11pm news

I like it, looks better than the Tesla 3 in terms of styling ... and the Polestar 2 looks like it has an instrument panel ... unlike the cheaped out Model 3 with only an ipad in the middle.
I actually like the fact that you might see less of them on the road ... plus 1 for rarity.
It definitely looks nicer than the model 3. However, the touch screen for everything can't be enjoyable right? regardless, it's not like I'm the target market anways.

the market could use more Leafs (affordable electric platforms built ground up unlike e-Golf/Niro EV), not more luxury tryhards like i-Pace (drove like poop for a $90k vehicle) and this Polestar line-up

Considering the leaf SV (comparable to the Standard Range Model 3) has a range of 243km and 147 hp for a price of $42673 i'd be surprised if anyone chose the leaf over the model 3 which is $49600 with a range of 354 km and a 5.6 sec 0-60 time.

the Leaf is not in the same class as Model 3
one starts at 35k, the other until just a week ago was closer to 60k
if you wanna compare 2019 models to make it fair, the Leaf e+ has the same range as the base Model 3, it's uglier but probably doesn't come with a buncha paint defects
the people buying Nissan Versa/Honda Fit/Mitsubishi Mirage/Toyota Yaris dgaf how fast your Tesla does 0-60 or how much horsepower their vehicle is lacking...if it saves them gas money without killing polar bears, great

lol, if you think Tesla is the only company to have car's with paint defects, think again. My Model 3 had no noticeable paint defects when I took delivery but when I was working for Honda in the early 2000's I saw a honda fit come in that had what I could only describe as a cigarette burn on the roof. We still pushed the car out the door and told the new owner that we would fix it after delivery.
This sort of stuff is somewhat common when a "hot car" is being sold. There are less eyes looking for defects due to the speed of which they are being shipped. As things calm down, defects go down as the companies have more time to scrutinise the vehicles.
As for the e+, you can't buy it yet so you can't really compare it. As far as I can see, no price has been announced either. Regardless of what the Model 3 cost last week, this week it starts at $47,600 (in my previous price I accidentally included a $2k option on it). This is only $5k more than a comparably equipped Leaf.
All this being said, sales numbers are the only thing that matters. In the USA, Tesla sold 140k Model 3's, 30k Model S and 29k Model X in 2018. Nissan sold 15k Leafs and Chevy sold 18K Bolts. These are pretty telling numbers and show that the Leaf and the Bolt just aren't the EV car that people are looking for (regardless of price).
Honda Fit wasn't around in the early 2000s in our markets
and how much does a Fit cost? maybe a 1/4 of the 3? Stop comparing Tesla to the likes of Honda, of which are still assembled at a much higher standard ...sure they've had various (gamebreaking) design flaws but they didn't become the most prominent motor company by building garbage, anyways the benchmark for TSLA should be Lexus/BMW ffs
the issues i brought up are not just some one off example, it's not some collective conspiracy from reviewers, tsla was building vehicles in dirty, exposed environments and pulling crazy hours to meet quota...shitty builds are just the growing pains of a new and unconventional manufacturer, at least they seem to be really making the effort to improve things
yes there's more scrutiny from the public, but let me know which other 'hot cars' had awful builds as widespread as the 3
the new Leaf has already been detailed in the US, they'll be available weeks after the base 3...at least they didn't have to hype it for 3 years to deliver
if sales number are the only thing that matters, we'll only be driving Corollas. TSLA sells because of tremendously successful marketing, paradoxically by the lack thereof. Space X, calling rescue divers pedos, getting into fraud troubles with SEC, etc. They're some very desirable aspects of TSLA like the tech, the performance, but only some of the blind fans will say build quality and reliability on the whole is acceptable
Model 3 is definitely an important milestone in automotive history, but as of writing it's not exactly the 35k electric vehicle for the masses, whether or not they can deliver in volume is still a question mark. 140k last year might seem like a major achievement but to fulfill like half a million reservations, they still have a long road ahead, meanwhile they rather stretch thin and get more free loans by designing pickups and roadsters...
yeah, you're right about the fit. it must have been around '06 that I was working there. The fact that they are assembled to a higher standard still didn't catch the paint issue though.
Time will tell on how successful each manufacturer is and I hope that Polestar, Tesla, Nissan and all the other EV manufacturers are all successful with their sales as it will help encourage adoption of the EV market faster to the masses. What manufacturer will be the dominant one in 10-20 years? Nobody knows but it'll be interesting to see how things play out.
Coquihalla. 150km/h is the average speed through some sections in the summer, including big 18-wheelers.
This is very true. We were doing 80km/h in the winter, and 18-wheelers were flying by. Never doing that again.
Went again in the summer. Oh hey look speed limit is 120km/h here LOL. Avg speed was 150-160 area. Got clocked at a higher speed on a downhill portion. No tickets or pull over. But then again. that was speed of traffic.
