It's the bottle water I dont understand. We have the best tasting drinking water in the world and this virus isn't going to affect our water supply.
I didn't understand it at first too. I also don't know if the water filter will be running automatically if there are no people attending to it.
If filter no longer works when workers stay home, then you have water that is not at the quality it is currently at, so you have to boil it. What if your basic utility doesn't work anymore like power, heat, stove? Then you can't drink the water.
I know it's unlikely, but if you imagine the worst possible scenario, it makes sense to stock up on water too, probably more important than food.

This case, WA2, is on a branch in the evolutionary tree that descends directly from WA1, the first reported case in the USA sampled Jan 19, also from Snohomish County, viewable here: https://nextstrain.org/ncov?f_division=Washington 2/9

This strongly suggests that there has been cryptic transmission in Washington State for the past 6 weeks. 3/9

Can you have both the flu and COVID simultaneously ? Seems like the only differentiation is the breathing issues but I’ve been reading that if you have trouble breathing it’s pretty severe and elongated symptom of COVID...
I guess it's possible, not sure if they've recorded it specifically. But yeah the breathing issues tend to come in later, and is one of the more severe symptoms.
Co worker just back from the Philippines yesterday and he phoned in sick today. Apparently he sounded like death, hope he gets checked out and is nothing serious.

Not impossible from a medical perspective.
However, COVID has a very distinctive signature in CT scans. So, the likelihood of getting a false positive with a CT scan being confused with flu is very low.
Why is toilet paper being sold out than a bag of rice?
Not sure if any one has mentioned before in the previous pages, or if you were looking for a serious answer, but there was this rumor that the material used to make masks is the same as toilet paper and tissue paper. So, at least here ( in Japan) people started hoarding anything paper related...Costco Japan had to limit one pack per customer.
I was curious after reading this comment and went digging to find out why there is a specific range between 0-100% alcohol. I wasn't able to find a clear answer why.. I guess anything higher would damage our hands or become too flammable? But I was reading info from the CDC and they mentioned to "clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains 60 to 95% alcohol".
Alcohol will evaporate. If the alcohol content is too high, it was evaporate too fast and isn't able to kill the germs is what I was told.
it's cuz some germs have a cell wall, like bacteria.
they're smart. they also need hydration. the cell walls let water in and out of the cell. high % alcohol makes the cells react and harden the walls temporarily, letting them survive.
if its 60-80%, the cell walls still let the water through, and also the alcohol, therefore killing the cell.
viruses i duno. they aint even alive, i duno how the fuck they can die if they arent even alive. lol. they just dry out in the environment or break down over time haha i duno. thats as far as my alcohol sanitizing knowledge goes

There are corona cases along the west coast of the US that can't be sourced to danger zones, and they're not testing ppl unless theyve had contact with those danger zones... Yikes
So 800 new over night cases in South Korea, 3 new cases in the states (one of them died in Washington this morning), 1 new case in BC and 3 new cases in Ontario. Yet BC health officials still thinks this is "low risk" and that "here in BC, we are still very much in our contain phase"... Like wtf every other scientist and Dr is saying this pandemic is going to be a matter of WHEN, not IF... Yet our retarded health official in BC still thinks there is nothing to be concerned about and that it'll pass. I wouldn't be surprised if she was an anti vaxxer.
If we think ER wait times of 3 hours is long right now, oh we will be in for a surprise once the covid 19 is blowing out here in B.C. #WeAreNotPrepared
Until our anti vaxxer health official declares anything other than "low risk", no one is gonna take it seriously and continue to go to work while sick. Those who are sick will just believe they have a common cold cause they "haven't been traveling".
People usually have just two modes: not giving a shit and panicking.
Like mentioned, panicking is a bigger problem. Look at all the panic buy that's already happening.

Unless all the non-asian population in Greater Vancouver are over the age of 50 and/or have preexisting health condition, no.

I don't think any of this is considered panic buying or panicking. This is more like preparedness.
You'll know if we hit panic when people trample on each other, fight for food, begin to loot etc.
For instance, there's a few videos of people lining up with carts to get into the Richmond Costco. Or this video from Hawaii titled "Panic Buying at Costco", but really it seems extremely orderly lol.
The "prepping" that is going on is kind of funny. I've been arguing with my wife for 2 weeks that we should do a Costco run to stock up on the usual stuff we stock up on. Not to prep for the coronavirus, but to nit have to grocery shop when everyone else is panic prepping. Sure enough she agrees to go today. 8 minutes after the store opened, the lines for the checkouts were to the back of the store. That's worse than 2pm on a Sunday at Christmas for the Kelowna store. Fuck that.
Did a quick 180 no scope out the door and went to a regular grocery store.
I go home and tell some friends and they say it's stupid to do any shopping ahead of time because "it's not bad yet". I can't imagine what it's going to be like in a month or 2 when it actually gets bad and the panic shopping really gets going. 2005 Boxingday shopping for pork chops anyone? Lol
Depending on how severe, COVID-19 has fewer symptoms than Flu. Cough, fever, and breathing problems are pretty much it.
With Flu you would have these symptoms plus more - fatigue, aching (headache, muscle aches), runny nose, sore throat etc.
How hard does it hit generally healthy people and how long does it last?
Depending on how bad that is for people without health problems the concern would more be the sheer number of people being too sick to work causing transportation and supply issues.
