A regular car/truck isn't marketed as being bulletproof. The calibre is still a guess but if you choose a bullet that's light or a frangible bullet it'll be less likely to penetrate something that a more standard bullet would. You could also do a custom load with less gunpowder than normal to slow it down so it's hitting with less energy behind it.

But even doing that seems unlikely when the only source is a "trust me bro" picture from a guy known for lying. I really wouldn't be surprised to hear it was just a hammer lol.

You can choose not to trust me. But many people had shot at car doors for youtube vids.

https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...gh+a+car+door+

None of them would stop them and "dent". They all go right through.

I'm just saying... regular car's panel do not have anywhere near the tensile strength as shown in CT.

I don't think Tesla would certify it as a bullet-proof cars as it's more regulatory paperwork than what's needed. But the fact that it can be shot at, which based on Elon Musk's comments being a Tommy gun, that use .45 bullets, it's nothing short of amazing because you put a regular car/truck, all those dents you see in picture would be holes instead of dents, regardless what the distance/caliber/grain load. Even ring fire .22 goes through with ease. The amount of force that a bullet can push through is a lot more than what a car panel was designed to hold.

The body is stainless steel.

Quote:
Even mild, "cold-rolled" steel is quite efficient at stopping most bullets, if it's thick enough. Most all contemporary pistol bullets will simply flatten or fragment against even relatively thin sheets, that's why steel targets are so often used.
and this:

"If fully hardened, 3mm of 301 stainless is more than adequate to stop any 9 mm Luger round I can think of, apart from exotic stuff like dedicated armor piercing bullets, which you're not going to find on gun store shelves," said Iain Harrison, editor-in-chief of Recoil as well as a competitive shooter and former British Army captain.

You're missing my point, the doors can be stronger than regular car doors but still not be strong enough to be bulletproof again a regular bullet.

Ok. Define "regular bullet".

.22, .45, and 9mm Lug mentioned so far are all standard bullets used by many many guns in circulation.

They are not some specialty, fancy bullets that must be sourced specifically.

You are arguing the awesomeness of the feat. by trying to question the bullet used in this case. And I'm telling you that from my own experience with guns... even shooting small/low power bullets like ring fire .22, it'd penetrate a car panel with ease. It's not car-specific. It's just the material/construction choice. You put a Tesla Model S/3/X/Y, they would all get holes.

And Manic pointed out that 3mm SS body has no problem stopping a 9mm.

This is not about being a Tesla fans. If a F150 can do this, I'd thinking "oh, this is awesome!".
It's one thing to be questioning things, but it's whole another thing continuing with the same argument when other pointed out that what you are questioning aren't question at all and let's just enjoy the marvel of engineering that the CT is going to be, shall we?

Else we'd be like a bunch of people who question moonlanding and Earth's shape despite countless pieces of evidence that suggest otherwise.

Right now I'm just questioning the lack of actual shooting video. Surely someone must have had a smartphone pointed at the truck that was being shot at. This is 2023. If the truck did actually get shot at, and these bullet dents were created by guns being fired at the truck, why not release the video? I think that would shut up a lot of naysayers.

Why are there even naysayer to start with?

Who cares if a truck is bulletproof or not? It's so dumb

Also, is it a technological feat to make something out of heavy ass stainless steel in 2023? Seriously... people need to give their heads a shake

If they did it properly, I'd say there's a good chance no one was in the immediate vicinity. The bullets would have a very good chance of ricocheting off. Even with much of it's energy shed from the initial impact some one would be having a bad day.

So no I'm not terribly surprised there's no cellphone footage. Now if you tell me they didn't bother filming? That I'd be surprised. There is still a chance the whole thing was done using a sledge hammer with a spike at the end.

I have plenty of experience with guns, and you're still completely missing my point.

But I'm not going to waste time trying to simplify it again, because like 68style says, it's a pointless metric either way. Even if it is actually bulletproof that's just a bunch of excess weight you're paying to haul around for no reason.

Because he would rather have people argue about it on the internet. He is having an event in November and will probable show the video then.

It’s hilarious that everyone who’s all about this truck seems to be the anti-regular truck crowd, where as “regular trucks” are for red necks and people who do outdoor shit like hunting etc.

But they love that it’s “bullet proof” lol

Elon is a master troll

I think the main issue people are arguing about is that Elon has a history of false promises, promises that he fails to deliver on (there are many of them).

That seems to be the sticking point here in regards to the truck being "bulletproof".

Let's not forget his previous demo of the bullet proof glass was the biggest embarrassment since the one where the Volvo auto stop was turned off and it crashed in front of the worlds automotive press.

Why wouldn't we be skeptical?

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me... You can't get fooled again!

People were doing this a couple years back when the Model 3 had a 9 month wait, Tesla had spies creeping the fb groups and market place and were canceling the orders of people trying to sell their reservations.
