unfortunately the ones that do blow up are the ones that have been tinkered with usually or neglected.
These early 90's, late 80's cars are crazy reliable.

Agreed. Had the box legacy a few years back. I think it was at something stupid mileage 300k+. Not a single quibble with it. Now on a early 2000s legacy with the notorious ej25 engine and it's almost at 300k. Just the one fatal flaw being the head gasket. Get er done and it'll likely go forever.

The problem is that 90% of them are molested and tinkered with.

STi V3 and up tend to blow up.
Besides the inevitable headgasket issues, the more mods on the motor, the more likely it'll blow.
pretty sure the stock EJ's run for a long time if they get regularly looked at and serviced in stock form.

i always wanted a subaru for a daily driver but people told me to stay away and stick to toyotas for reliability. Do WRX's make decent daily drivers if not modified or abused? do you need turbo timers to protect it?

Ya, different motor and turbo. But from ad, are there any distinguishing features?
I think my fav is the 2nd Gen forester, specifically 06-08, after facelift. But impossible to find haha
