It can add up fast if you're driving a lot though. Assuming 20k km/yr that's $150 in gas. When I went from BFG KOs to Goodyear Duratracs on my Jeep Cherokee the fuel economy got worse by 2L/100km. That's half of what I paid for the set of tires per year in extra gas.

Update: Called up my local tire shop and they had a set of brand new Michelin Pilot Spot AS 4 in my size which a customer cancelled their order on. Got it for a price I couldn't refuse, lower than a set of DWS06+ and lower than Costco.

Let's see how this goes. I get them installed next Tuesday evening. Thanks to everyone who responded. (Everyone gets a thank!)

i guess over the lifespan of the tire it does add up. 150bucks a year x 3-4 years on average and you're looking at a new set of tires lost in savings alone. I didnt think of it like that.

I'm pretty sure tiny spy balloon's RX mileage got worse with the CC2's but not something we've noticed or tracked. They ride quite nice so even if its a 1L/100km lost, id still take it. PLUS THE EYE BROW MATCHY-ness is hilarious.

I think in Vancouver CC2 would make sense until you are doing 20 - 25K KM per year. That's when the costs add up.

On my father-in-law's recently acquired Yaris, we put on some Nokian all weathers for him as his OEM tires were 10+ years old and we finally convinced him to let go of his junker van that was falling apart.

Had I known about the CC2s, that would have been perfect because the eyebrows are a representation of how he feels about me.

At risk of putting on my dunce cap, but could you explain the procedure on how to do this?

I just use my car's onboard computer and it shows X.XL/100KM

I don't see how you can calc rolling resistance besides somehow measure the force it takes to move the car from a standstill

Probably just a subjective opinion on the rolling resistance, and I would guess that the trip computer fuel economy would suffice since that's how you're tracking your fuel usage already.

I can vouch for Firehawks as I run them. Good enough wet traction, and great as a street tire in the dry. Just a bit on the noisy side.

If I age them out I might switch the Michelin PSAS4. The Total Confidence Plan makes them attractive as it’s effectively three years of BCAA with a 250km range if there’s no spare.

i accidently bought AS4's for my dads RX400h a year ago. It was the only tire costco had available at the time. Damn thing is epic, drove it to seattle in a snow storm last year and it didnt skip a beat. Other people were sliding around everywhere on the i5.

So after this thread, I got off my ass and ordered some new summer tires for the fat wagon since I'm down to like 5/32nds on the fronts (6/32nds on the rear) thanks to Audi sticking 240 treadwear SportContact 6s on an Allroad lol.

Snagged some ECS 02s for a great price through my Audi club discount, will get those mounted later in the summer after I use up the SC6s at auto-x etc.

Update/Bump: We put on the Michelin Pilot Sport AS 4 last week and have put on about 1000km. So far, so good. Much queiter than the AS 3 (likely due to wear/tear/age/usage/mileage etc.)

Mix use of city/highway and the car is showing 7.1L/100KM. Good grip on dry and wet. So far so good!

I'm thinking of getting them for the golf R, I got some camber wear because stancepants. I'm running Conti ECS and I honestly don't need a summer tire like that since I mostly just commute.

I think a Golf R can sure take advantage of a good tires like the Conti ECS, but as you said, since this is just a daily commute, the Michelin Pilot Sport AS 4 (or equivalent) will suffice.

They have a promo / rebate until the end of the month, so act fast!

Just got the Indy Firehawks for the S2K, I was running DWS for close to 6 years and they slid controllably on ice when you went a bit too fast.

I can take left turns flat out at like 50 - 60 KM/hr and it doesn't feel anywhere close to slipping out.

I swapped over the wheels on my Boxster from a set of Federal Evoluzione ST-1 to a fresh set of Hankook RS4 endurance tires. I meant to get the Hankook RS4 for track days and be able to drive on the street, but will be shipping the car back to Vancouver from Toronto, leaving it at my in-law's place for when we are in town.

Initial impressions - A+. The tires pair nicely with the Koni Special Active shocks (formerly known as FSDs) Absorbs bumps and imprefections on the road while offering a nice, smooth ride.

Laying down the throttle, the tires react nicely and traction is not an issue (duh, they are new!) Turn in is sharp and the feedback is excellent. Because I've only put on less than 50KM on them, I'm going to take it easy until they break in over the next few weeks before it gets loaded onto a truck off. I had to retorque one of the lug nuts on the front driver side.

Overall, not a bad tire depending on what your application is. Wish I got some Michelins like every jerk bag Porsche owner, but life is short and who really cares. Time will tell whether these hold up. Given the lack of mileage, I'm sure they will be okay, until they give up due to age.
