Yep, fried bean curd. You basically dip it in the soup for a few seconds and it soaks up the broth - love it.

Making sea cucumber is a task and i remember my dad making it. Now i appreciate it so much more.
Took me 2 weeks to soak + prep and have the entire whole cucumber with thick aromatic sauce along with mushroom. None of the gen z appreciated it but who caresssss.. it ain't about them. LOL





Alternatively, i made lasagna for them too just in case. Appreciate family pot luck so a diff level now that i'm old (er). For kids.. family time is just *boring. I guess I was like that when I was young.
