Is it just this season that I've noticed more NHL players having health issues in terms of heart or brain conditions? First, Kris LeTang suffers a stroke and now Peverley collapses on the bench.

Did Nolan get 5, 10, and a game like Sestito did? No, he got a double-minor for roughing and Joensuu got 2 minutes for getting his face in the way of Nolan's fist.

It happens every year. Pavelec collapsed on the ice a few years back, as one example.
Hockey is a sport where you go all-out (or you're supposed to, at least) for 30-60 seconds and then rest for a few minutes. It's very bad if you have cardiovascular issues.

7-minute PP > 1-game suspension
Considering Sestito's statline of 1 second of ice time, he essentially got a game + 25 PIM and the opposition got a 7-minute PP.
