IMO a respray to get a rarer/more desirable colour is fine on rare cars.
A respray from white to black on a normal everyday car would raise concerns.

to me respraying a rare car is even a bigger no-no resale value wise
but if you absolutely want that colour...spend the big bucks and take lots of before/after pics for the next owner so they know it's not to cover up an accident.

My friend lost traction in the wet in the highway  It's okay though, we're fixing it up for him and it'll look better than new in a few weeks! Big plans for that car as well with new wheels, exhaust, bumper, hood, steering wheel, etcetc
