No shot at you, but only to that sentiment:
But I think that sentiment is just 100% media marketing BS. Whether you collect your pro-am allstars or not, Canada will always be a hockey heavy-weight in the international stage. The problem with Canadian hockey is that we think we have such ownership and entitlement to the sport that we assume we can waltz into any tourney and own it.
The Sweden loss did lots to tighten up that attitude as was seen vs. the US win and at the very least, the first 40 minutes with Russia.
Additionally, the Russians were'nt the better team than Canada IMO; just more hungrier as the game went on, and Canada, less so after getting the 3 goal cushion. Pulling off such an upset was such a monumental task.

Honestly though, when the team plays to a 3-0 lead the way they did for two periods, anything but a win is a disappointment. There really isn't any excuses to be given on this lost.

"We're the best team in the world right now and we proved it," said Russian forward Yevgeni Kuznetsov. "We always believed because we are Russians and we have the best team."

So true. Canada I believe had the most 1st rounders out of any team in the WJC. All that "underdog" talk was from the coach to take pressure off the team.

Could be. I thought it was just the most marketable media storyline coming from last year's upset to US.
