Panasonic plasma if you want the best PQ in the $1000 range.

I'm in the market for a 2nd LCD TV as well. 37-42 inch.
The visions website shows some sales with a lot of savings off tv's that ends Feb4 (today). I didn't compare prices with BB or FS.
I know visions cuts quite a bit of prices anyways. I've been asking some friends if they want to buy one, if you buy two they'll cut the price huge im sure.

What's the viewing distance from your screen? 42-50" is a pretty wide range. Normally the recommended size is TV size x 1.5 to get the viewing distance. (for example, if you want to get a 42" screen, you want to be sitting at least 5.25 ft from the screen while a 50" screen should be at least 6.25ft from the screen)
This calculation should give you a rough estimate of what size would be ideal.
Once you have the size figured out, then you can look at screens.
I picked up a 42" Toshiba 42LX177 in the summer for $1200 for our basement. 1080p, 120hz and 10 bit panel. It was a previous year model but was the top of the line model that was marked down from $2000.
I haven't really kept up with TV's since my last purchase, but if you're willing to up the budget a little, and willing to go plasma, the Panasonic Viera's are very nice and worth looking at.
