It probably isn't one of the P55's since they only support socked 1156 and your i7 920 should be a socket 1366.
In any case, according to the manual, the boot codes show up on the LED display and once the PC is fully booted, it shows you the current CPU temperature.
Link to manual: (I picked the x58 FTW3 but it seems they are all the same)
http://www.evga.com/support/manuals/...32-GT-E768.pdf
Search for debug and it should bring you to the list of codes.

Okay so I'm not sure if I applied the thermal paste properly or not. I went with a thin layer spread it around. After putting it on the temp did drop. Here are the new temps...
do they still need to be cooler then this? What else could be wrong?
as far as the motherboard goes I got it wrong. Its a evga x58. I'm not sure which model but here is a picture of the computer:

Temps seem alright for a stock unit. If I remember correctly the HSF has a switch for quiet and full speed mode. See if it's set for full speed to see if you can bring it down a bit more.
I wouldn't be too concerned now with the current temps. Did you take the MB picture before you reapplied thermal paste? The 84C is a bit too high if it's idle.

yeah that picture is from when I still had the problem of the computer not sitting upright lol. That same reading on the motherboard now reads 31 but the core temp monitoring program I downloaded shows them as higher then that but still 15 degrees lower then when I used the old thermal paste!!
