help find dog boarding kennels
I am goign away in november for a week.
Can someone recommand a doggy boarding service to take care of my dog while i am away. This is my first time, so please let me know how much estimated cost i need to pay.
If you have some place you want me to stay away from, please also note it.
I am in coquitlam, but someone already told me about this "silverbirch boarding " in surrey.
My dog is a 20month old male Jindo (shy timid personality, goes to dog park on regular basis, occassionally dislike some dogs " particularly male dogswho are not fixed)

Talk to your vet and see who they recommend, I generally find that safe. Some of the vets even do pet boarding themselves. It's best though if you can have your dog stay with someone, where they'll get more exercise and attention than at a kennel where she'll be around lots and lots of noise and dogs. Do you have a friend with a dog with whom you can swap, they watch yours while you're gone, you watch theirs while they're gone?
That's what I do with my pets when I travel.

I'd suggest having him stay with a dog walker as dog walkers typically have their own dogs. If he's not too much of a noisy barker I might consider it.

I would pass on silverbirch as it's not the same after the original owners sold it. I have heard lots of good things about Hazelmere Kennels, they are also in Surrey.
There contact # is on their website : http://hazelmerekennels.com/

went to visit hazelmere, silverbirth, and happy paws yesterday.
I decided to take my dog to Hazelmere because facility is clean and they know what they are doing. They also offer 1 free day of daycare to get to know my dog
Silverbirth isnt bad, but i just didnt click with the person who gave me a tour.
Happy paws is a definite no go ( i wanted to leave as soon as i got there). There are no other dogs there except the 10-15 papillons they bred. Felt like their attention and energy is invested in the farm and breding aspect

I think its best you ask your vet about any dog boarding service which are reliable and dog friendly.

It's awesome that you went out and toured so many! Let us know how Hazelmere goes.

Anyone heard of Keam FARM?
http://www3.telus.net/KeamFarm/Home.htm
Sounds very wild, and I was recommanded by a friend who had good experience. Appearently all dogs sleep in their basement in crates and are all free during the day time to run around their farm.
I will go for a tour next week hopefully make my decision.
