Help: Something To hold HID Bulb [PICs]
I was changing my HID bulb in my headlight unit when a mechanism which holds it in place broke.
The bulb itself fits into a tube:
and it is this mechanism which holds the bulb in place, it looks like this:
I called the dealership and they said that I can't just buy that one component, I would have to buy the whole headlamp ($1500), but this is unreasonable for the one component.
Good thing is that the lamp casing itself has a cap which covers the bulb, the tube and the ignitor. My question is, is there something high heat resistant which I can buy and stick to the headlight cap to push the bulb in place so it doesn't move?

hmm what car is this for? maybe try your luck at a junker? stuff like this is hard to DIY

use some uber strong glue...or tape...so brah...dunno what else...i guess depends on how it broke

what car is this for? i purchased a pair of brand new headlights off someone on craigslist for 200 or even ebay is you best bet. Anyways. I broke 2 tabs on the inside of my headlight which holds eerything together to work. I went to canadian tire and purchased a tube of instant cement that works for all plastics, metals. glued everything back together and its been 2 years no problems. Just use reglue it and ur good to go

looks like a mb projector from the back
you seem to broke the retention ring that holds the bulb in.
I would say call junkers they should have them to sell with headlights, If not call retrofitting places like TheRetrofitsource, hidplanet, etc etc to look, I'm sure youll find something

The car is for a MB SL.
If you use some glue on the bulb, how would it not melt considering the temperature of the bulb?

it is not glue, it is cement mixed with metal shavings i believe. Its sort of like cement in commercial buildings with the wired bars, thats how this stuff is so strong.
it is called JB weld, this stuff is awesome for fixing everything. Once it dries, its even harder than the plastic itself. It will not melt. the heat from the headlights don't produce enough heat near all the tabs and plastic pieces. the heat is mostly from the front of the bulb area. i've tested diff types of sillicones and instant glues/welds for this type of stuff.
trust me, you will be happy once you fix it with JB weld

^I'll vouch for that. JB Weld's an epoxy based adhesive, which are damn strong in general. I've repaired a treadmill roller/pulley with it, and it's still working fine. Should work on your headlight, just be careful with it.

only problem with JB weld is that he's gonna have a hell of time getting the bulb out when the day comes that it needs replacing again

HIDPLANET for sure would have those in the B&S even if you have to buy a whole e46/e55 projector they go for cheap.
