EBC heats up even without engine started?
Got a Depo EBC in the car like this
Had been functioning somewhat until the temps hit a good ol' 30C the solenoid seems to overheat and stop doing anything.
Upon closer inspection, if I turn the ignition key to ON without even starting the car, the solenoid gets pretty hot on its own anyway.
Is it how a boost solenoid is supposed to be like? Or I should pack up the Depo EBC and prawn it off asap given its bahavior?

Do you have the physical specs of the solenoid? There is a coil in the solenoid which will generate heat as long as there are power (resistance).. it should have a wide range of operating temperature.. however it could just be old (the coil no longer can overcome the resistance of the spring).

LOL it's pretty much what one does when selling used. It's working fine if it's 30C outside and the car is moving. Tried yesterday going to F-D after border wait with a running engine I can't hit boost for a couple of minutes...But it works again after the highway wind has taken the temp down.

Solenoid shouldnt be getting hot unless its energized all the time. Meaning its receiving power and ground signal from the controller. If the operation of the solenoid rests at open and then the controller energizes it to close it then it will run warm all the time and thats just a stupid design that will lead to early failure.
