Curious because I'm not totally sure what to look for in riding pants. I guess knee pads and hip padding is the most important?

If you're going for Kevlar denim, make sure to get the kind that is woven into the denim material and not the kind with hip/knee patches. The patch-styled jeans are just a marketing gimmick.

Also look at -- awful brand name, lol. "Ugly-Bros". They seem to have done well in reviews UglyBros Echo-K Motorcycle Jeans Review | RideApart They essentially take designs from other brands like Balmain, or Levis and build them in Kevlar/Denim weave. I haven't seen a pair in person but they could be promising.
