Yup it's in Winnipeg. Im gonna have my buddy take a look at it in the air. But he did note to me in a text it had a hail claim on it. Not sure why he didn't mention it earlier

just go into this knowing you're not getting the same value as an original well kept example with history. if you are planning on restoration then that price needs to come down, which i doubt the seller will go for unless he's desperate to get out from under it for some reason. because of the unknown history of the motor someone needs to have a serious look at it in detail, and budget at the very least for the timing belt and water pump to be done if there is no record of it.

do a compression/leak-down
i think the price is right given 200km+ examples are selling over 25k lmao
i wouldn't worry about missing interior...plain jane integra pieces from junkyard probably go for next to nothing...then drop in recaro SRD up front so you dont have to worry about matching

That 10k caR seems like a decent buy. I like the fact that Its a low kms 97 spec, as for the swap who cares how many kms on it as long as it runs good and doesn't smoke.
Here's a shell for 10k or 16k with JDM swap.

Just make sure its a JDM b18c from a type R. Japan type r and sir use the same code. Unlike here where the type r and gsr have different engine codes.

I just ran the vin and it was written off from hail. Not a big deal but definitely kills any resale value.

I suppose hail is better than a big accident or theft recovery.
What else is the seller hiding since they didn't mention the hail damage in the ad.

That's what's worries me. I asked if the title was clear and he said yes. Then told me the old owner opened a hail claim but never repaired it. But I confirmed the title is branded. Seems shady. He's a young kid

It's a track rat/daily driver candidate. A resto would break the bank and you'd be left with a salvage title car anyway. Agreed that hail damage is better than a collision or theft. Rust would be my main concern at this point. When the claim occurred would also be good info. Like tofu said, it's still a LHD DC2R and seems to be a good starting platform to build from.

yeah would be a great car for track / k swap.
no regrets butchering this one for more "specialized" duty. save the more saveable cars for the collectors that appreciate a bone stock R.

i tend to avoid hail damaged cars as if they were in an accident as well... the cheaply repaired ones can be filled with bondo instead of being knocked out, possible water damage if there was glass breakage, which leads to replacement glass issues as well (non-oem, leaking seals).

Depends on when the claim happened. Any poor repairs will have shown them selves already. If the bones are good ie solid chassis with no rust or accidents I would go for it as a daily. It's a 20 yr old car at this point, title doesn't bother me much, everything is a wear item except the chassis.
For 10k I would go for it if it's got a clean foundation to work with.

Like everyone said, if you don't care about the resale value (build as track, toy car), I think it is quite a good deal at $10k. Assuming the engine and chassis checked out OK.
If you trying to flip it in a few years, then this might not be the one. Try to find something cleaner.

if you have doubts the seller might be hiding something else...walk away
too many signs this car has not been treated well..JDM front on a 97 was the first red flag (the original bumper is $$$)

Looking for some OG white 15x7 wheels for track. Genuine lightweight TE37, Rega, Spoon SW388, CP035.
That CP035 on CL / RS are tempting but would prefer white.
