old gasoline smell from engine bay and inside cabin when heat is turned on
Hi guys,
Been lurking here for quite a while.
I have a current problem with my car, need help please.
Car cabin smells gasoline when I turned the heat on for the last couple of days.
Today when I got back home and parked in the garage, I can smell very strong gasoline from the engine bay idling and after turning off the engine.
The smell from both inside the cabin and the engine bay is the old smell of gasoline. What I mean by old smell is like when you pump gas, the fresh gas has a fresh smell, but if you let that gas sit outside on your clothes or skin for a while, it has a different smell, and that smell is what I smell from the cabin and engine bay right now.
I also have to mention in the past year, I have smelled the "fresh gasoline" from the engine bay but never inside the cabin. I would start up the car, pull the car outside of the garage, pull the garage door down, lock the doors, and when I walk past my car after starting up for about 1-2 mins, I would smell the fresh gasoline from the engine bay. This was on a pretty consistent basis, but not everyday, and it never worried me.
Car is a 2005 Chevy Cavalier.
Can someone please let me know the possible problems before I take it to the mechanic?
Thanks so much!

Given your explanation of the smell, I'd have a look at the charcoal canister.
Do you have a check engine light on? Any drivability issues at all?

Yea the easiest way i can think to find something like that if it's not fairly visibly obvious would be adding uv dye to the fuel, running it awhile, then using a blacklight to find it.
If you can't simply follow your nose i mean.
