Would changing the head unit or adding subwoofers get VI?

Given that this has been happening for a few months now, another approach to get some attention would be to see if our local 'tuner' shops have been seeing a decrease in business, year over year, as a result of people not wanting to modify their cars in fear of a VI. I'm starting to see people sell the parts that they have had to take off after being miss-instructed to return to OEM parts so if shop's business hasn't decreased now, there might be a wave of 'uninstall' appointments to get through first.

Not really. It shows the public how many people are actually concerned about a issue. When talking to a politician or someone in the media showing them a change.org petition with 5000 signatures is going to hold weight than a post on RS.

^^ If there is enough support from an online petition, politicians are going to act on it. As much as I think it is a flawed system, that's exactly how things works.

Take this Langley woman's complain to ban smoking in condo buildings:

it gained traction and now an MLA is presenting it at the BC legislature because some 13k people signed the online petition to support it. I generally do not agree with the proposed condo smoking ban, but the incident shows how our politician works.

I want to look into setting up an online petition for our cause here, but I'm going to need some time to get through stuff first.

If I decide to do political outreach for Makerspace Nanaimo again I will hopefully get to meet Tony Harris. His family is probably the biggest name in cars on the island and he has a ton of connections in the automotive world. I would like to be able to show him something thats not a RS post.

I connected with BIC way back when it started but as I already said before:

1) no longer have the car
2) never took it to get inspected as it went out of province

What am I supposed to do - show CTV a picture off my phone and a GoPro video clip from autocrossing? Means jack all without having an inspection performed and passed.

Apparently there's a protest going on for the pipeline to keep them busy, maybe they can vi the protester's cars to keep them from coming back

Too bad there isn't too many prominent youtubers here in Vancouver.
Say take a stock car, video getting VI'd for visible camber, non OEM shift knob, OEM tinted front windows etc.

That would get some attention if the car is stock and there is video of the officers sprouting off incorrect things like the front plate has to be in the same position as the rear plate, etc.

the guys doing the most work are those who weren't even issued a VI but trying to watch the community's back

With so many people having dashcam rolling these days, I'm surprised there hasn't been more video evidence. Maybe everyone's worried about privacy, I guess I can understand. If I got VI'ed, I'm definitely filming the entire thing, making sure to ask questions so the officer can misquote the MVA for me.

This is definitely hurting business, look at it through a legal perspective. If cops can say you have to go to the dealer ship that's taking business from private shops. Plus there's almost no more tuners or mod shops around any more. Since everything is illegal it's hurting the economy

probably can't tow you, or test exhaust sound or wheel rub, but if they're hellbent on you getting an inspection, i don't see why they cant notify by mail

In MVA the common words: vehicle should not be operated if blah blah blah.

So unlikely, more over those cops are would like to mess with you and put on edge, judging their behaviour

The only video I saw was with him down in LA and he got pulled over and ticketed for having a Canadian drivers license and then threatened to be towed if the officer saw him again. He went straight to the Malibu or wtv PD and complained. Was very professional and got his ticket thrown out on the spot.

That seems to me like th exact kind of person you want on this issue

While we may not have a big YouTube hero in the community it's not hard to put a video together.

The thing is, yes a lot of cars have gotten VI. But a lot of these cars also have modifications that technically are illegal. ie. aftermarket steering wheels, seats etc. It's been hard to find a car let alone a person to speak out. If someone wants to get in front of a camera and speak about their vehicle/experience I'll be more than happy to get something together. BUT this car has to be legal, no point of putting a heavily modified car in front as the VI that was issued is valid.
