Yah, the Avian flu hit the duck market ... the prices went sky high. ~$50 per duck at the avg BBQ shop! Even without that ... I agree. Went to a fancy one on West Broadway a few yrs ago and it was like >$100 and I thought it wasn't worth it at that price.
DIY roast duck isn't too bad in terms of prep/work. I've been experimenting with making my own - my char siu and siu yuk is pretty good, still working on the duck. My FIL makes pretty good home made roast duck.

Canadian geese/snow geese are not protected. You can in fact hunt them. Though I have heard the ones down here taste like crap because they eat garbage.

Trudeau made a promise to remove all fish farms out of our waters. Pretty important stuff. Justin needs to be more like his father and fight for our environment. Pierre enjoyed the outdoors. Loved being out on the water and its wildlife. He'd be so pissed off at his son right now The longer the open pen farms are out there, the more damage to the wild stocks. .

Is goose not popular in Canada? Over here you'd have to go searching for duck at roast meat restaurants; everyone just serves roast goose now (market stalls still sell duck, some both). When I first moved here it wasn't like that outside Sham Tseng
