Doesn't Canada used to have the largest population of Ukrainians after Ukraine and Russia? I'm sure Poland and probably other adjacent countries have more now, but Canada has always had strong ethnic and cultural ties with Ukraine.
And at least that's a better relationship than with India, where they send people to assassinate our citizens on our soil, or with China where they send spies to threaten their former citizens on our soil, and funnel money to influence our elected officials.

How do you think Ukraine will repay these loans?
Their industry is decimated, major cities are rubble, infrastructure is in shambles.
Canada will be at the bottom of the pole repayment and the longer this drags on, the less likely of repayment.
Giving away free money isn’t anything new for this govt. though

This was is such a fractional part of Russia and China’s growing influence over the west with things like major investment throughout Africa etc.
The war just has a face, so people can say they care about it. When Russia and China are controlling huge swathes of mineral deposits and countries economies, this war will look like nothing. There is so much more in terms of geopolitics and other countries interest in this war than simply Ukraines sovereignty.
Not to say it PP or Harper was in power it would be any different, but we’re in a position now where people will begin to legitimately lose their homes to interest rate hikes and we are STILL giving out free money
Zelensky knows exactly where to go when he wants some free money. Then the two actors can put on a nice little show for the cameras
Edit* over 5 billion euros coming from Canada in financial aid making them the 5th largest financial contributor to ukraines efforts…

I'm more appalled that some hard right GOP geezers don't understand this, or appear that they don't understand this. "Enough is enough?" Compared to sending American soldiers and other operatives to directly sabotage Russia, funding the proxy war in Ukraine is far cheaper, and provides a far better "ROI".
The most recent change in Poland's policy to stop sending weapons is rather concerning though, but let's leave that discussion for the Russia-Ukraine war thread instead.

Also people don't seem to realize we aren't just sending them cash. We are sending them unused equipment that carries a value in those numbers. My wife is Ukrainian, and if any of you met her you'd know that any investment in protecting Ukrainian women provides a very significant ROI.

We are mostly sending cash.
Look up the charts in terms of monetary contributions VS others. The US and UK are the only ones who’ve sent more cash than us.
Don’t get me wrong, this is absolutely terrible for Ukraine and the effects of this will likely never be resolved. Generation after generation of Ukrainians will feel the effects of the last few years.
However.. i scratch my head wondering why Canadian is the third largest monetary contributor to their plight. There are very few reasons I can come up with that aren’t for political gain.

Poland did not say they were stopping weapons shipments for good. They're focusing on replenish their own stocks with new weapons to cover what they already sent Ukraine. To this date they have literally given Ukraine a third of their entire Military inventory.

I've been sort of busy at work, and have only saw the headline for the news (without following through on the details). I thought it was odd that given everything Poland has done for Ukraine, they would suddenly be scaling back support.
Poland is absolutely setting an example for all NATO and European nations on what they should be doing to support Ukraine. I have the utmost respect for them.

I don't follow this much but you do realize Ukraine is fucked they are never recovering financially from this. I recall watching something saying they have the highest debt to gdp ratio in the world right now, and they need at least about like 400 BILLION to rebuild. And their land is covered with millions of land mines making it unusable.
Meanwhile oil is at $100 a barrel now + no more new buddy guys to build houses. I guess they can stay at home to farm.

^ that's the negative side of all of this. Ukraine won't be able to pay it back, loans will probably be 'forgiven' with strings attached = Ukraine will now be indebted politically to all those who have been giving them military aide. This is not too much different than China investing in Africa and owning them except that Ukraine didn't have a choice in this.

^^ yea it's an excuse for the Western world, aka USA to build a military outpost there to "keep the peace" literally this can be stopped today Ukraine and Russia just has to talk it out, We clearly know that Ukraine has no resources of it's own to win this. They are just trying to beg their way too drag other people in. How will sending more weapons stop a war?
And how many millions did the government throw away Libya and Morocco or the China floods? Combined? Less than 1% of what we're giving to Ukraine? What about Kelowna? Did we get anything to rebuild there? That shows where the priorities are at.
