As a dad of a 2 year old, if i'm hosting his bday party, having my best buddy show up is probably the thing i'm looking forward to MOST.
Someone who I can have a beer with in between cake cutting and kids crying.
So yeah, if my best buddy said he was coming and didn't show, I'd be bummed too.
And yeah, I'd have no problem saying something like "wtf you aren't coming?? damn I was looking fwd to catching up" to make him feel bad, and guilty and shit.

Yeah, getting a Boxster or a sports car is/was on the list - but between being sensible with money (or just having higher priorities for it) and my recent hearing issues I'm parking that for now. I gotta get my hearing issues sorted out before I get myself a loud car and then I want to move retirement as early as possible - if I could retire at 50 (17 months away) and have to give up the dream of a sports car I would do it.

Everyone else got rid of theirs

I had 2. Loved them both though the NC1 was way better than the NB IMO. I loved the NC1 more than any other car I've ever owned but sold it so I had money to buy a house.

I had mine since new, and drove it for 12 years under all sorts of super fun situations, and would not have sold it if it wasn't for me developing a stupid sciatica where I'd be in massive pain for sitting in the car anywhere between 15 - 30+ minutes. Without any sort of timelines for recovery in sight, I begrudgingly sold it for dirt cheap (with all the tasteful OEM+ mods) before the pandemic car shortage massively jacked up all car prices. 
If someone were buying brand new now, I'd say the GR86/BRZ is a better sports car than the current ND2 Miata. But in the used market, I continue to think that the NC generation is still the best-est bang for the buck sports car people can get nowadays.

If you aren't JDM, would a Euro Miata work for you? Z3 and early Z4 aren't actually that far off. It's a little fatter, a little faster, just as soft and more creature comforts. I'd argue a Z3 is pretty damn close to a NC.

I don't actually like the 124, you are dealing with just as little room as the ND (NC is bigger and much more livable despite shittier interior) and the 1.4t can't be revved. They are also rarer as the ND is still being sold whereas the 124 has been discontinued.

TBH I still miss the NB for just cruising around. Much better car than the S2000 at that.

man i didn't leave my miata by choice lol... it is also one of those cars I miss, honesly miss it more than the evo.... plus it was sooooooooo cheap to run... like literally I can do anything and everything with it and know I will be okay by the end of it....
