It’s 165 per person for the tasting menu but you have to pay upfront and a mandatory 20% tip is included.
The drinks are like minimum 20 dollars a pop so that added up quickly even though I don’t drink booze, my wife does, so it got pricey.

My GF loves that spot. They have a clarified Pina Colada she raves about.
I'm sick of this fad of clarified cocktails, noticing a lot of higher end cocktail places doing that lately. It's cool to look at I guess, but it's boring, there's no mouthfeel.

I recently did the chef's tasting menu at l'abbatoir myself, was pretty solid except I was wildly let down by the main protein course if ribeye. The rest of it was fantastic.
Once every few months I'll find myself on an in office day after work and my wife has her own dinner plans, I'll go treat myself by going to Mackenzie Room and having a full on meal myself at the bar. This time around I was too lazy to go all the way out to Pigeon Park so decided L'abbatoir was closer.
If you can swing it, I highly recommend dining alone at the bar at a nice place, getting to chat with the bartender or other solo diners, you never know who you might meet, it's really fun.
Oftentimes you can even get into a normally really difficult reservation by dropping in solo, because they can just shove you into the corner of the bar and get another cover's worth of sales.

$160 for a tasting menu from a 1 star is pretty reasonable. Only time I’ve ever had cheaper is small hole in the walls doing lunch tastings. The second you add wine pairings etc. it usually Almost doubles the cost though lol

I remember when I moved to Van we did the 9 course at la Quercia and it was $59 each. Absolutely amazing meal. e30 m3s were 15k and 3 bedroom houses were considered unattainable at a million bucks. I wish I had a time machine.

So I go to the VSO last night, had dinner before felt like somthing sweet for the show, they are advertising “mixed candy bags”
Grab one and a bottle of water, the full label of the candy bags were masterfully obscured..
Who the fuck wants these?!? lol fuck I tried two I thought might be acceptable spot them back in the bag and tossed them
