It's almost come to the point that Costco isn't a deal anymore.
Lately I've bought my rib eyes at Columbus Meats, ends up cheaper than Costco, and more fresh.

i find quite often it isn't. i simply don't/can't use up what i buy in such large quantities and it can be wasted/thrown out, unless it's something non-perishable like toilet paper

Fresh meaning the meat doesn't go grey/blue within 2 days sitting in the fridge.
I've noticed that happen with Costco beef for whatever reason, meat starts going stinky and discolored only a day or so sitting in the fridge.
I know they always recommend you freeze right away, but with Costco it's kind of ridiculous.

I heard it was due to the mechanical tenderizing they do. Introduces bacteria just under the surface.

^ do they still do that? the last time I bought steaks from costco was a while ago, but I remember the package was labeled as mechanically tenderized. But yesterday, I noticed there was no labelling so I wonder if they still do it?
