My logical brain doesn't either. Why add more weight and complexity to cars where a big part of the appeal is being lightweight and simple? They already get great fuel economy.

I'm ok with 48v mild hybridisation being added - that seems to add very little weight and brings good benefits in low end performance and FE but I'd be very skeptical, in this weight class, that anything more would be of value.
That said, let's just stick with a high revving 4 cylinder eh? 200-240hp is just fine. 2500lbs max.

I was really surprised at the size of people that could fit in the ND. Everyone who asked me at the meet to sit in the car fit no problem.
