So many restaurants in YVR, especially those that opened within the last 5yrs or so are mostly like this. Stupid Instagram has ruined everything.

Like, their food and ambience might be pretty and all, but the flavor is average at best.

It rare now that I'd go into a resto and I said, wow, this is quite decent.

The last one that came to mind was Lorette Brasserie in Whistler. Like I went in without much expectation other than it was close to where I was staying. But food was actually decent and quite refreshing on their take on some food. It wasn't wow because some plates were meh. But overall, I gave it a 8.5 and had been back already.

The other one I'd recommend is not fancy. But it reminds me of those hole in the wall places that were more prominent back in the 2000s where food was the center stage. Lao Cai in West Van. They also have location in Surrey and Richmond (just opened) but I haven't tried them. But the West Van one is legit.

2) Hanami cocktail was great and so was their Soy Sauce Ice Cream, it's been signature and never been off the menu.

Lastly, Mott 32 duck is not HK peking duck.

Beijing / shanghai / Mott are entire duck sliced whcih is very different. Not "PIN PAY" duck at all.

Even QJD Peking Duck... both suck.. cause it's not HK skijn duck.

Well... to be fair, only Hong Kong calls it "pin pei" duck, as in, sliced duck skin. Beijing style really just calls it "roast duck", and then they serve up slices of skin + fat + meat like you've shown above.

I liked Mott32. But yeah, way too expensive. The wok friend noodles with beef were super good, but I think it was something crazy like $50.

If you guys are interested in amazing food in a dumpy place, try Tour de Feast in North Van.

Ok. calling it "dumpy" is harsh. It's just very plain. Feels more like a sandwich spot located in an industrial area. Wine list is meh.

But the food was very, very good. The chef knows how to cook high end French cuisine.

for dim sum. He said that the food is good but overpriced.


You want siu mai, the pork dumplings? That is Spanish pork in the dumplings. Friend said at the time the siu mai is 20 bucks for four dumplings in one order.

While officials have not yet disclosed where or how Wedding was apprehended, NBC News reports that multiple agencies were involved in the operation.

Truffle oil is such a racket. 90%+ of the "truffle oil" you get in restaurants is made with synthetic aromatic compounds and nothing to do with any real truffles.

A good substitute for truffle oil is truffle tapenade (ones that have actual truffle in them, not oil).

I use that quite often.

Some of the wop shops like Bosa Foods has it.
