On one hand, I am not Rubio, so I can't understand how deep his personal grudge and hatred towards Cuba is. To me, Cuba doesn't pose any legitimate threat to the US at all, so I can't understand why Rubio feels the need to topple the current Cuba gov.

Because the Cuban Exile community in the US doesn't give a rats ass about the Cuban people (who they probably see as beneath them in their place in socio-economic and racial hierarchy). They are only butthurt about what they lost in the Revolution and want it back by any means necessary and if that involves starving out millions of people then so be it.

All the commentators / political analysts are saying Trump wants to follow through on his "Donroe Doctrine" and turn the entire North, Latin, and South Americas into the US' sphere of influence, and within that sphere, every country would essentially become a subordinate state to the US before being an independent soverign nation, so there is that hegemonic ego he wants to stoke for himself.
But as I was saying, I'd hardly think imposing an oil blockade on Cuba is a good option to pursue that hegemony.

There's probably no viable governing alternative to Cuba's ruling communist party. Unlike Maduro where the US probably did some side deal with his VP to get him out. Of course there's no way he's going to try sending the military to invade. So short of another Bay of Pigs style invasion he's going to try and starve the Cuban people into doing his dirty work for him. It won't work, of course, but he can tell his constituents in Florida "See I'm being tough on Cuba"

This 100%.
The majority of these exiled Cubans were the wealthy white, or mestizo Cubans.
They could give a flying fuck about the afro-Cubans that remain on the island, in fact they go out of their way blocking any ability for their native countrymen to immigrate into the US.
They're vile people for the most part, and can't wait to swoop in and purchase wide swaths of land once the Cuban government collapses.

But vast majority of Cubans are Mestizo no? According to wikipedia Afro-cubans make up less than 10% of the population. I mean sure you got some Ana de Armas types but most are like Fidel's complexion right? Still makes sense though racial hierarchy in Latin America is no joke.

Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, Thames Valley Police said.
This allegation means wilfully abusing or neglecting the power held by a public office. Police have not said what led to the arrest but Andrew spent a decade as a UK trade envoy between 2001-2011.
Documents released by the US Department of Justice last month showed that the former prince, who was bound by the same confidentiality guidelines as UK government ministers, was in contact with Epstein during his time as trade envoy.
Thames Valley Police had previously said it is assessing whether Mountbatten-Windsor shared confidential material with Epstein during this time, as well as allegations that a woman was trafficked to the UK by Epstein to have a sexual encounter with the former prince.
Unmarked police cars were seen arriving at Mountbatten-Windsor’s home on his brother’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk on Thursday, the day of his birthday.

Right now the US has absolutely no moral ground to make any claims that they are any less corrupt than countries like Russia.
It's going to take a generation to fix is young Canadians' (or young people of other countries for that matter) perception of the US.
Like when I was a kid, I remember trips often to the states, shopping trips to point roberts, soccer exchanges/tournament with kids in Washington. We saw so much of their media through their Seattle TV stations that we'd get via cable. If Canada couldn't win the olympics or something, I'd be rooting for the US. In general I had a favourable view of them growing up.
Contrast that to my kid, who's turning 9 now. His entire life he's grown up with hearing about all this bad shit with the US. He already says "BOO USA" to everything he sees or hears about them. He certainly hears my wife and I bitching about them every time some bullshit happens. This whole situation is going to leave such an imprint on him and other kids his age that I don't think they'll really get over.
