Wired Network: PC1 -> PC2 -> Internet (crossover cable need?)
I have 2 PCs here. One of them connected to the internet 24/7, the other is just sitting there.
I tried the non-crossover cable, it gives me that exclaimation mark in the task bar, which say limited connectivity.
Do I need a crossover lan cable to get it working?

It's not possible for anyone to answer your question without more info. Are the RJ45 port auto-sensing? If so, any cable will work.

do you have 2 networks cards in one of the computers?... or you just want a local lan with no internet?
in the old days yes you need a crossover from PC to PC. appearttly the post above says some of them are now auto sensing.

They should be auto sensing. What are you using for IP settings? Make sure they are on the same gateway.

Well, if it's configured as PC1 -> PC2 -> Router, then PC1's gateway is PC2, while PC2's gateway is the Router.

PC1: Wants to go on the Internet (not sharing files)
PC2: Connecting directly to the Internet (not sharing files)
Internet: through 3G USB dongle
What I am trying to do is to share the Internet only....I plugged in a regular network cable to the onboard RJ45 port on both PC, it is not detecting, all I see is an exclaimation mark

Most likely need a crossover cable.

No crossover required if you have a newer pc with auto-sensing RJ45 ports.
You'll have to "bridge" the network connection to the network port you're connecting the cable to on the PC with the internet connection.
