is this worth the cpu upgrade?
here is my question:
I have AMD FX-62 not OC'ed, is it worht the upgrade to X2 550BE. I am only willing spend $100ish, and need to know if i should wait another year.
Fx-62 runs ok with most games right now, I do some gaming, some work stuff and download, rarely video encoding.

Odds are you won't notice much difference just upgrading your CPU at this point. I'm guessing the rig is a few years old anyway? You'd probably be better off saving up a bit more and replacing the whole thing at once.

i am quite curious about the X2 240/250 and the X2 550BE, The clock speed is either equal or better compare to my 2 yr old Fx-62, but the price is so cheap. Eventhough they are budget chips, could the new design architecture makes them far superior to my Old FX.

superior? Yes. will you notice a big difference? probably not.
I imagine your current rig is full of parts from around the same time frame so you're going to see performance bottlenecks elsewhere in your system if you decide to upgrade piece by piece.
If you really wanna just get a new CPU the X2 240 is a great chip and can be found for $45-50 if you're lucky. I put a budget rig together for a friend a month or so ago and used this chip and he loves it. Great bang for the buck.

AMD chips are getting cheaper and cheaper, they are slowly becoming the hyundai to the mercedes (intel).

Your present CPU is about the same as a 5600+. Have a look at this page and read the paragraph above the table. You can make your own decision.

nothing u listed seems to be extensively cpu dependent
if ur looking for response time even a cheap kingston 40gb SSD will do wonders for your price range.
