Overclocking a i7 D0 and P6T board.
I haven't overclocked since the celerons first came out.
Can someone post a how to for overclocking an i7 D0 chip and P6T board?
nothing crazy maybe just into the 3's that's stable. 3.4? 3.5?
upgraded air cooling.
Thanks

You will need to get a new CPU heatsink for sure if you are planning on doing any OCing.
The i7 runs ridiculously hot (run coretemp, and you will know what I mean).
Anything below 3.6 should be doable with air. Anything >3.6 you will need water-cooling IMO.
As for OCing guide for the i7:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/25...clocking-guide
What I did:
got a new CPU heatsink, OC it to 3.2 (very mild OC).
Temperature remains the same as when it was at 2.66 w/stock heatsink.

the D0 is known to overclock well from what i know, and with the noctua, you should easily get to atleast 3.8ghz with without overvolting too much.

I just cranked up my turbo frequencies, so it only overclocks when it has to. Of ccourse it's an i7 965, so already pretty fast
I also adjusted the settings so it uses turbo more 'freely'. As soon as the CPU load gets high, it shoots up to 3.6 GHz.

also running a 920 D0 and P6T SE here
with my current heatsink i'm getting ~30C on all cores @ 2.67 ghz (stock)
i don't really see a need to OC the processor though? it's fast enough to run all games at high settings provided u have a decent GPU
then again i am running intel turboboost which is like auto-OC in itself
