Computer lagging randomly while playing games
So my desktop would lag randomly when I play games (WoW, NHL.......) Is not the video card issue as I already turn all settings to lowest. I only have the game and Microsoft Esccensse and maybe MSN or Vent running in the background. I double check and make sure Microsoft Update and Microsoft Escensee isn't doing anything while I have the game running.
I do virus/ad-weare/spy ware checks every week and update Windows. Currently I am using Windows 7 64bit .
I found out that the lag is due to CPU load. From the Task manager I can see when it lags the CPU usage goes as high as 98%. It will only stay laggy for about 1min and then everything will be back to normal. This really affect my fps(sometimes it drops to 3 to 5fps which is really bad).
The Computer I am using is: Intel Core(tm)2 Duo E7400 2.80GHZ 4GB of DD2 RAM and I am using Evga Gefore 9400GT 1GB DD2 and Asus P5Kpl-am SE Motherboard(I know the stuff ins't the best but it should be able to handle what I do easily).
Can anyone suggest what is going on? The computer is not overclock. Any suggestion would help. Thank you!

aww might be. It lag really badly today so shut the computer off and I was going to clean the dust but the HD,Video card feels like it was burning.
Right now I took the side of the case off and see if this helps. Should have spend more on the case than getting some no name brand -_-
Edit: After cleaning the dust and have the side of the desktop open the GUP is at 45 degrees and both core is around 47. Going to to some more testing.

i don't know if this is the same prob as mine, but whenever i tried to run any type of game, my system would just slow right down (even after i've exited the game)
i ran some tests on my laptop and it turned out the fan wasn't hooked up. after i plugged it back in, things were ok again.

do you guys have self changing wallpapers turned on? cuz if you do, everytime it changes, the cpu load shoots up and causes cpu lag.

I used to get 80fps+ with video settings maxed out, but now I get about 25fps, sometimes even as low as 2fps. I was thinking it's just a matter of re-installing.
