GReddy E-Manage Ultimate on newer cars
So.. School me on fuel management..
I'm a newb in building force induction vehicles, but I stumble upon an "Almost" ready force induction Mazda3, yes, a regular 3 being Turbo'd.. It looked good and everything seem to be up to spec so I got it off the previous owner.
When I first got it, it had some issues with CEL coming on, plugged it into the OBD2 it read first cylinder not firing properly or not firing at all, so I replaced that ignition coil thingy. After that the major problem comes in, the car doesnt seem to be easy on gas. I understand when boosting, you tend to loose fuel economy, but what if a full tank at approximately 45L per fill up I can only get as far as 300kms, and thats very close to empty the tank.
This is a 2006 Mazda3, the previous owner is running about 0.5 bar boost, very light, and using GReddy E-Manage Ultimate to run the fuel maps. I was told that the E-manage isnt a quick enough fuel management system for these cars, and I do plan on moving to AEM FIC6 to get a better tune, but damn, is there a possibility I can get a slightly better fuel economy in the mean time?
a bit more info:
Driving Habit: light throttle, ususally in Drive. (I know, manual swap coming in soon, no factory manual models in Taiwan)
Fuel Octane: 98 equivalent to 94 in Canada/US
Exaust temperature sits at about 200 degree on Defi gauge under normal city driving, highway driving it sits around 5-600 at around 130km/h
Boost: hitting 0.3 bar boost ususally once - twice a day. (I dont redline every light)
If there are any more info needed, I'll provide them as well..
any experience on GReddy E-Manage Ultimate on newer vehicles?

I've used E manage ultimate on a few skylines and silvias and slow was never a problem

First off I would not replace the emanage with the FIC. The Emanage is a better unit as far as piggybacks go. Greddy Emanage and AEM Fic are both piggyback systems. Meaning they do not have a direct control over what the car is actually doing. They basically intercept the maf sensor readings and output a different value depending on what the tuner tells it to. I'm assuming that the mazda 3 is running larger injectors and an upgraded fuel pump to make up for the larger fuel demands of the turbocharger. It's difficult to say if your fuel consumption is proper or not without seeing the tune on the car and without knowing what parts are being used. A small quick spooling turbo may enter boost quickly especially with an auto transmission meaning that fuel efficiency will go down drastically even if the car is running closed loop fueling.
The best way to make sure the car is running correctly and at it's best, is to get it on the dyno and verify that the fuel trims are correct and to verify that no detonation is occuring under boost.
