Bringing liquor back from the US to Canada
What are the rules on bringing liquor back to Canada? I've always heard that you had to be in the states for at least 48 hours to not get taxed? Is the tax even that bad?

The tax is bad, its like an extra 200% mark up lol or something ridiculous like that.
Wine - Up to 1.5 litres, Up to 53 fluid ounces, Two 750 ml bottles of wine.
Alcoholic Beverages - Up to 1.14 litres , Up to 40 fluid ounces , One large standard bottle of liquor
Beer or Ale - Up to 8.5 litres , Up to 287 fluid ounces , Approximately 24 cans or bottles (355 ml each) of beer or ale.
You are allowed to import only one of the amounts listed in the table free of duty and taxes, as part of your personal exemption.
^ taken from the site that was linked last post. Personally, the most i brought over was 2 bottles of alcohol ( 1.15L ciroc, and 1L of liquer ) and i almost got taxed cus im only allowed one but the guard ended up letting me pass by in the end without having to pay anything

we brought a micky in from vegas, but we were there for a week.
The amounts that luder posted are per person, however if you have two people for example you can bring in say a 2 liter bottle of alcoholic bev. if both of you are present, they don't have to be separated.

I went to LA with my dad for work related stuff but only stayed for a day and half. We bought two bottles at duty free (2 for 1 deal I couldn't refuse) but I totally messed up because I forgot about the 48 hour rule.
Long story short, the customs officer didn't like my mistake, he gave me a ear full but let me through. One thing about Canadian customs is don't fuck around with alcohol and tobacco limits. It pisses them off and it's a good way to get dinged with a hefty duty. Other things like clothing they usually let you through even if you're slightly over the allowed limit but not with alcohol and tobacco.

^Yep
Unless you're staying 48+ hours it's not worth it because of duty
just go with people who don't drink, claim the bottles as belonging to them

It will also depend on the guard you come across. Last time I went down I came back with two cases of wine but didnt get dinged on it, even after declaring them.
