Their subs are the bomb. Anytime they have fresh bread for their subs, they kindly let you know to wait a bit to get it fresh.
Definitely getting some subs this week!!

It always makes me wonder though -- does a family / small business always has to work 7 days a week to make it work? Would it make the business unprofitable to only operate 5 days a week -- although probably with 1 work day either on Sat/Sun? Or, can they just get outside help to keep the business running 7 days a week?

Bakeries often have high profit margins and relatively low operating costs. Perhaps they did not meet the volumes needed to make it attractive enough to keep the business alive, or simply because they failed to realize the potentials of their business had they crunched some numbers or consulted for advice on how to run the business with a well-defined plan.
We only know one side of the story in this situation (and an unfortunately one in which they are simply closing) so we will never know.

Well, there's that, too.
It could be that they own the property as well, and want to sell it as they may have been approached by a developer. Lots of development and urban densification in and around the Kingsway area.

What are you going to do with the 2 days off a week?
When some is trying to give you money you don't say no.

high rent cost, it makes sense.
If i remember... they only open 6 days a week?
tung hing is a place that legit gives extra portions of pate and butter when I ask for it.
I always get the special + sausage for $5.00, with extra pate and butter of course.

The only way to have a restaurant / business take a day or two off if they have high profit margins that covers the total days lost.
for retail, bakery etc, it kills their profit for missing days.

I admire the hardworking business owners that are willing/able to grind it out 7 days a week to make their business work. I just hope they enjoy and/or find meaning in what they are doing, are comfortable with the consequences/sacrifices that are being made, and most importantly of all, don't physically and mentally drain themselves out from running the business 24/7.
I'm not trying to sound high or mighty or better-than-thou at all. But I personally wouldn't be able to stand a continual drain from work like that at all for anything more than a few months.

easier said than done. We live in a country where education is unlimited.
Many of these families who start up restaurants, particularly vietnamese places all came from vietnam which gives little to no education back in the days. They move to a better country (canada) in hopes to feed their family.. with no education means hard work and time

CHOKED. This is my go to place for viet subs. Been going here the past 10+ yrs...
Always get two subs. Even when the subs increased in price over the years, didn't care. Just take my money . So damn good.
I think I'll have to drive from Metrotown during lunch time this week, just to get my hands on a sub.
