I thought CMBC/Translink was all about DEI. Am I missing something?

Do you have like a terrible driving record, points deduction, claims, speeding, etc.? I heard that was an instant rejection.
Farebox gig ... now after it is explained, makes sense. Do you still roll up the coins? I mean this has to be a diminishing role as more and more people use Compass cards.
|
cash is king. there are still a nice healthy and consistent amount of coins that come through that gets rolled up.
when the compass system rolled out along with credit card taps, we all thought we would be be out of jobs or a bunch of us will be let go, but that wasn't the case.
as for bcrdukes, not sure why you would get rejected so fast if your licence is valid here in BC.

some people from farebox have moved onto being a bus mechanic, service person, and being a skytrain elevator/escalator tech.

In 2015 I applied multiple times for the farebox gig and it was no dice
It's much easier to apply for the bus driving position as they're always constantly hiring.
As for management roles in CMBC, there's three different kinds
Operations supervisor where you're in the office
Road supervisor you're on the road
And Transit Communications where you over see the buses in the system behind a desk
6 figure salaries for all of those positions at top wage

What's the casual community bus driving job like? The idea of that kind of low stress part-time gig sounds kinda neat in my state of semi-retirement.

I got rejected within 3 minutes of my application while guys like dark0821 win a life with a bus driver job and a new car.
I see no future with Translink/CMBC. Back to the welfare line I go.
Note: If only I had my CPA... #AsianFail
Edit: Fortunately, I'm not one of those people who list the alphabet in my email signature. Hah!

You're driving a smaller bus with a maximum capacity of 21 or 24 passengers.
In terms of what the actual job is like I'm not too sure. It definitely seems like a low stress gig since you're driving around low amounts of people.
There are only two garages that handle the shuttle buses. Port Coquitlam and Hamilton (East Richmond)
Hamilton handles the majority bulk of the shuttle work with routes in Burnaby, New West, Surrey, and UBC

I applied and passed 2 rounds on my first attempt recently. 3 rounds in total before interview, then off to training if you pass that. Failed on the last radar simulation test because I kept focusing on the map. I think if I took it again in 2 years I can pass it now that I reflected on the process. If I focus on the time and clock I can probably better arrange the planes. That being said, it was not an enjoyable process and I think I would hate it doing it full time as a career. Full out focus on 10 +different things at the same time. When you arrange something in order, something else comes and messes up. After 45 mins simulation my brain was pretty drained. Can't imagine doing that for 10+ hours.
The first 2 rounds was fairly straight forward for me and mostly about spacial awareness and pattern recognition with repetition. They want to see you can still maintain performance after a long time doing one thing. The 3rd round (simulation) was more about crisis management and multitasking. I think it can be compensated for with proper training and strict process practices, where as spatial awareness and maintaining focus under repetition seems to be something that you just naturally have.
Passing 2 rounds i think is like top 10% of applicants, passing 3rd round and interview is top 3-6%, and passing the training is 1-2% like you said. The training is apparently a huge pain as well because there is a ton of material that needs to be memorized. Apparently more than 60% burn out during the process. I honestly don't even know if I can do it at my age with all that info.
It's definitely not a job for everyone no matter what the salary is. After that Laguardia incident a few days ago, I'm glad I didnt pass round 3 and proceed through the training process. I would not be able to live with myself if something like that happened under my watch. I'll stick with bus driving for 1/3 of the wage and 1/100th the stress level.

probably less than 1/100th... its legit stress free at this point.
Lets face it, I am not gonna drive on the wrong side of the road mowing people and vehicles down.
It's literally less stress than high school

dark0821 - Any chance we can see your resume format and what key words to focus on? I'm disappointed that I didn't even make it past the recruiting system!

My resume was a basic bitch format, straight to the point, listing my previous employment and attached references.

This makes sense now. This is where I went wrong.
Nobody wants to be my reference. I have to rethink my professional network (not that it existed.)

Nah that's a Boomer anachronism, back when they'd say "I know Bob from the Works Yard he's my cousin and he can vouch for me" and get hired on the spot.
Even the line "References available upon request" is redundant now, you might as well also put "Available to work Monday to Fridays" or "Proficient in Microsoft Office"

The only reference I genuinely need is whitev70r because of racial credibility. the ones you mentioned are (in)visible minorities and will hurt my chances of even a response from the HR portal.
