just tried public charging for the 1st time en route to kelowna since free Electrify Can for 1k kwh or 2 yrs came with the vehicle

pulled up to hope at 74% with only 20 min pre-conditioning, only 50kw pulling from 350kw charger ok w/e maybe too close to full battery (vehicle is rated up to 250kw), someone accidentally ended our charging 5 min in, and a caddy was waiting because the remaining CCS was completely trashed/cable had been cut

at kelowna this was where it really started getting frustrating: we realized one charger even with 2 cords can only charge one vehicle at a time, WTF not even half speed for both?

our vehicle app also kept insisting charging plan suspended prompting us to pay, eventually we get it working after wasting a good amount of time. I also now get why people hate charge port by driver front fender

just a gas station next door, even the cambodian tire on the lot is boarded up. Yes technically brunch place walmart and even costco was within walking distance. Brought e-scooter in case but didnt have to use it

getting to hope at 35% with a full 45 min preconditioning we wanted to top up for just a solid buffer in case of some insane traffic, same shit with the pay prompt, we had to wait
a good 15-20 min then we were up and it finally worked...avg was 100kw and peaked only at 150kw (again at the 350w charger)

long story short this wasn't even during fri or sat, my goodness might be able to tolerate this only once a year but might just stick to shorter trips where I dont have to charge up at all (tofino, seattle) or get a nacs adapter yet still only capped at 50kw, good luck to the mach e that said they were doing this to toronto

i was reading the j1.2 taycan is a better road trip vehicle than the lucid sedan because of this so worse range but far better charging curve; sall good still got combustion shitboxes haha

even halving my estimated time at charging stop was optimistic, the infrastructure we have has a LONG ways to go

^That story right there is my hesitation to jumping into an EV, seems like a real headache for road trips.

im thinking many people due to work school can only take trips during peak season, and i cant even imagine waiting for more than one car

perhaps non-issue at superchargers

maybe hybrid or rent

the drive itself was up there though like 8 or 9 out of 10, and neat seeing the usual aggressive regen gain a few % back on the big descents

efficiency was around 6km/kw

I suggest learning what the charge curve is for your vehicle so you can find out which battery % range enables the fastest charging speeds. Generally, most current EVs won't charge fast around the 74% range anyhow.

Roadtrips with current EVs are still more clunky compared to a gas car. There are some additional steps you can take to make roadtripping easier (i.e. ABRP + OBD dongle for route planning), but I also recognize that's a lot of extra work.

Sounds like part of it is a Lucid problem. I've never had any trouble charging at any charger that fit with my BMW. My experience with the 45e was what prompted me to consider the iX, but too bad the most ppl optioned the iX in a funny way and the trunk is weird on the iX.

We haven't done the Okanagan with charging, but the experience with Whistler and Parksville were positive.

I did test drive the Lucid Gravity, coming from a BMW there were too many weird decisions and compromises for now. Even on the show room I was getting buggy software and for some one who's in testing, and need the car to just work for my wife, it was too big of a compromise. In no way am I saying the BMW is bug free, but I'm not running into a situation where I have a raw fish in the frunk but it won't open, and can't open until service comes out 2 days later and now the car reeks of death.

^ might also just be electrify canada BS, even the VW owner was complaining it being wonky (admittedly they were also a noob at this)

radeon: the shitty car we drive doesnt even have OBD Lol

yeah i was not bothered by the charging rate at that soc

just that only 2 working chargers that wasn't chademo on that network in what's probably the most critical charging stop in BC is almost diabolical

i see BC hydro has added 350kw ones in Hope few months back, maybe i'll give them a chance

Yes, 50kW on Tesla is a Lucid problem.
I had a big list of how restricted some cars are, Ioniq is the other one that drops from 250kW to 110 on Tesla chargers.

iX has its own charging bullshit
Once you do like 2-3 DC Fast Charges it starts throttling your charge speed, eventually leaving you with 22kW lmao.

Even on Ioniq 5 which is fastest charging mainstream EV, it's still extra hassle to find the charger and such.
They do 18 minute 10-80% which isn't fast enough for me, but the new Chinese stuff that does 5 minutes would be good enough for me.

For me the EV is strictly a city car. Anything outside of 150-200kms (factoring in the round trip on a full battery) is not something i want to entertain. After my last experience going down to seattle with the lezbaru, ill probably never ever take another road trip with it.

I cant deal with the myriad of adapters, varying charging speeds, the wait, the who-knows-what sort of condition the chargers are in, and the overall anxiety of finding some rando charger in the bush.

yeah no thanks, ill just pay gas $.

Its much much more efficient in the city anyway. EVs don't do their best work on long sustained high-speed driving. it SUCKS down the range quite a bit.

EV's are best used as city golf cart/grocery getter/commuter.
